Martin Webb, MD, FACP | Immediate Past President
Dr. Martin Webb attended undergraduate school at Cardiff University where he received a degree in Biochemistry. He
continued his education at the University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff and graduated in 1992. Following
graduation, he spent his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Virginia, Roanoke. Upon earning
his MD, Dr. Webb worked three years in primary care with Centra Health in Brookneal Virginia. His Fellowship in
Nephrology was completed at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville in 2002 and he subsequently joined the Carolina
Kidney Associates the same year. He is a graduate of the physician leadership academy and served on the Peer Review
Committee from 2002 to 2018. Dr. Webb also served as the Medicine Representative to Medical Executive Committee
(MEC) 2014-2016, and was President Elect from 2016 - 2018, President from 2018 - 2020, and Chair of the Credential
Committee from 2016 - 2018. In addition to his career in medicine, Dr. Webb works as a coach to members of the medical
staff, supporting their growth within the organization, and continues to pursue mission work to the Dominican Republic.

Ashley Mortenson, MD | Treasurer
Ashley Mortenson obtained her degree from Virginia Commonwealth University Medical School in 2008 and completed
her Emergency Medicine residency at Newark Beth Israel in 2011. She is board certified in Emergency Medicine, but is
now working for Cone Health and UNC in their urgent cares. She has an MFA from Pratt Institute and working in urgent
care provides enough flexibility where she can pursue her other career as an professional pastel artist, where she has won
several prestigious awards, been published, and featured on television. When not providing patient care or painting, she
can usually be found in a yoga studio or running somewhere on the streets and trails of Greensboro.
Joshua Landau, MD | Board Member
Joshua Landau, MD has been involved with the GGSM since moving to Greensboro in 2009. He served as President of the GGSM from
2014-2015, after being invited to the Board by Will Truslow (Rheumatologist extraordinaire). As President, some of his contributions
included starting “Connect-the-Docs” which was a purely social gathering for dinner between primary care doctors and specialists, as
well as reinvigorating the society functions with events that included: “Jazz Night”( where local bands with top level physician talent
played for the membership), “Veterans Night”( where the Society recognized our Physician Veterans for their service and learned how
their service to our country has impacted their careers in medicine), and “The Older I get, The Better I Was” (where physicians and
providers who have achieved Olympic and National Athletic Recognition shared their experiences on the world stage with their
hometown medical family).
Joshua grew up in Ham-and-Yam country (Smithfield, NC) and was Captain of the 2-time NCAA National Men’s Gymnastics Team while
attending UC Berkeley. He returned to UNC for Medical School and chased a girl (now wife and mother of 2) across the country for five
years of training in Orthopedic Surgery at the San Francisco Orthopedic Residency Program. While furthering his training on the west
coast, he won Most Outstanding Fellow at the San Diego Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Fellowship Program. Following his move to
Greensboro in 2009, he has been practicing Orthopedic Surgery at Murphy-Wainer Orthopedic Specialists ever since!
Steven Armbruster, MD | Board Member
Steven Armbruster, MD received his undergraduate degree at Villanova University with BS in Biology, and attended
medical school at Loyola University in Chicago, IL. He joined the Navy and completed his Internal medicine residency at
the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda MD. Following his residency, Steven worked as an internist for 2 years In
Yokosuka Japan as a physician in the U.S. Navy. After returning to the states, he completed a fellowship in
Gastroenterology at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda MD and spent 3 years as a staff
Gastroenterologist at the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. Steven moved to Greensboro in 2016 and joined LeBauer
Gastroenterology after 11 years of U.S. naval service. He currently serves on the Endoscopic Services Committee for
Cone Health and the LeBauer Physician’s Committee.
Dalton McLean, MD | Board Member
Dr. Dalton McLean grew up in Lumberton, NC and attended Davidson College (chemistry major) with medical school at
the University of North Carolina. He completed his internal medicine residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital,
Harvard Medical School. This was followed by a cardiology fellowship at Emory University where he served a year as
Chief Fellow. He joined LeBauer Cardiology in 2009, which has subsequently become Conehealth Medical Group
Cardiology. He served for several years as the Director of Echocardiography for the Conehealth System as well as on the
Conehealth Medical Group Executive Committee. Dr. McLean served as the 2018 president of the Greater Greensboro
Society of Medicine. He currently practices in the Advanced Heart Failure Clinic at Moses Cone Hospital where he
follows inpatients and outpatients with heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, and left ventricular assist devices. In his
free time, he enjoys time with family, tennis, and running.
Douglas Brent McQuaid, MD | Board Member
Dr. Brent McQuaid attended undergraduate school at the College of William and Mary (Chemistry) and medical school
at the University of Virginia. After completing residency in internal medicine at the University of Alabama Birmingham
he served as a Chief Medical Resident there for one year. He then went on to Duke University for pulmonary and critical
care research and conducted basic science research in micro-RNA regulation of airway inflammation at the UNC Cystic
Fibrosis Center. He joined LeBauer Pulmonary and Critical Care in 2012 and established the practice’s outpatient
pulmonary office in Burlington before moving to full time work in Greensboro in 2015. Dr. McQuaid actively practices
pulmonary and critical care medicine while serving on the LeBauer physician committee, as Wesley Long Hospital ICU
medical director, and as Chief Medical Officer of Green Valley Hospital, the COVID only facility in the former Women’s
and Children’s Hospital. He also served as President of GGSM from 2018-2019. In his spare time Dr. McQuaid enjoys
alpine skiing, cycling, and spending time with his family.
Brandon Cain, MD | President
Brandon C. Cain, MD is originally from Kentucky and stayed in his home town to attend Centre College in Danville, KY for his
undergraduate degree in Chemistry. Subsequently, he attended medical school at the University of Louisville and graduated in 2010. Dr.
Cain completed his general surgery residency at the University of Alabama–Birmingham in Birmingham, AL and fellowship in vascular
surgery in Norfolk, VA at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He is one of nine physicians practicing with the Vein & Vascular Specialists
practice locally. He is married with three boys and aside from his professional work, he enjoys golfing, spending time with his family and
watching college football.
Ward Robinson, MD, MPH | Board Member
Edward (Ward) N. Robinson, Jr. MD MPH obtained his BA (religion) at Duke University in 1975 and MD from the Bowman Gray School of
Medicine in 1979. He was part of the first Internal Medicine residency collective at East Carolina University School of Medicine. He completed
a three year research and clinical fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of Utah School of Medicine. During those years he directed
a CDC sponsored STD training program. He briefly served as Chief of Infectious Diseases of the Louisville VA. Upon returning home to North
Carolina, he joined the Internal Medicine Training Program at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital and spent the next two decades providing
hospital consultation, infection prevention supervision, and HIV/AIDS care while teaching medical students and residents. Hoping to find a way
to halt HIV spread, he transitioned to public health by receiving an MPH at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and taking on the
role of Medical Director of the former Guilford County Department of Public Health. Over his journeys he was a Fellow of the American
College of Physicians, the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the Society of Health Care Epidemiology of America. Dr. Robinson was a
Clinical Professor of Medicine at UNC and Wake Forest University Schools of Medicine, as well as Adjunct Professor of Public Health
Epidemiology at UNCG. Now retired, he continues to serve the medical community by contributing to the Board of the Greater Greensboro
Society of Medicine and serving as Chair of the Endowment Committee. He married his medical school classmate, Pamela Martin Pittman MD,
in 1978. They have two sons, one an ER physician and one a touring musician with Mipso. In retirement, Ward has completed Certificates in
Jazz Studies at Berklee School of Music and the Miles Davis Jazz Studies Program at UNCG. He can be found playing music with his friends in
the band, Icarus, and with the Guilford College Jazz Combos and Ensembles.
Ayesha Lovick, MD | Board Member
Dr. Ayesha Lovick grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. She received her undergraduate degree from Hampton University and her
medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed her residency in general surgery at
Atlanta Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in critical care at Emory University. In addition to general surgery and
trauma surgery, Dr. Lovick’s interests include community service, especially alongside her sisters of Delta Sigma Theta,
Sorority, Incorporated; mentorship; and travel. She is the Associate Trauma Director for Moses Cone Hospital in
Greensboro, North Carolina and works as a trauma surgeon, general surgeon and critical care specialist.
